The perspicacious readers might have noticed that while Vietnam has now hosted the event three times and most of the other Mekong countries have hosted it twice, Myanmar and Thailand have only hosted it once. However, the political turbulence that engulfed Myanmar towards the end of 2007 ensured that the vote in Dalat was unlikely to be allow Yangon H3 an opportunity to straighten out this anomaly in the statistics and Thailand, in the shape of the Bangkok Harriettes, readily agreed to host the event despite the Chiang Mai InterHash still being relatively fresh in people’s memories. The hostesses , in what is fast becoming a tradition, decided on an outstation concept and chose to hold Mekong Indochina Hash X in the ruins of Sukhothai, the ancient capital city situated 430 km north of Bangkok. It is perhaps notable that, in a strange twist of fate, these ruins resulted from the destruction of the city by an ancient Myanmar king! The event is scheduled to take place from 24 to 26 October this year (2008) and the cost will be 2,500 Baht (approximately $US 80) for three days worth of fun. Full details are available at: http://mekong2008.com. See you there!
The Mekong Indochina Hash has always been one of the friendliest regional Hashes around; it has kept the true spirit of Hashing alive and well; it is small enough that you get to meet people and develop lasting friendships and yet it is just big enough that it is not too parochial To top it all, Indiana Jones would die to get to half the places where it has been hosted. Long may it continue!!
On On to the negst Mekong Indochina Hash and the negst – wherever it may be.
